Spirit of Tasmania Ferry from Melbourne & Sydney

If you will be travelling to Hobart by sea, then you will need to book travel aboard the Spirit of Tasmania car and passenger ferry system that crosses the Bass Strait. It leaves from both Melbourne and Sydney and crosses to Devonport, a city which is a short car trip to the north of Hobart. Travel by ferry can be very pleasurable in that it offers you a chance to experience the open water at somewhat of a relaxed pace.

Once available, passenger trains no longer make the trek across Tasmania. There may be a few local tourist rides along historic tracks, but no long stretches are available.
